The Challenge

Manage the first construction project on the Wheelock campus in more than 40 years. The seven-floor campus center and student residence hall includes a student center, kitchen and dining facility, café, 108 beds of student suite and dormitory housing, and multipurpose spaces. It was built in the middle of the congested campus and completed in 14 months to allow for the continued implementation of the campus master plan.

The Solution

As the Owner’s Representative for the project, CSL Consulting facilitated project team communication in order to meet the aggressive construction schedule. CSL negotiated the contract business terms to ensure responsible actions by both the design and construction teams. We provided proactive management of the budget to mitigate risks and tapped into our resource network, resulting in key client benefits.

The Key Benefits

CSL achieved 5% cost savings for Wheelock during each design stage; returned 3% of the overall approved project budget; and negotiated a 33% reduction in proposed change orders for the project. Our team managed the overall move-in and post-occupancy work within a two-week winter break.
